Scientists at NASA want to send a Mars drone now. The Mars Electric Reusable Flyer (MERF) would be capable of flying across the Martian surface, taking pictures and videos for us to observe back home. It can even recharge from a rover on the ground with it.
Update: New Horizons is now halfway to its next target in the Kuiper belt 2014 MU69.
